Underplanting

Date published: 30 March, 2015

This is for planting in areas where natural regeneration has been unsuccessful or where species diversification is planned as part of a low impact silvicultural system where this action helps meet the objectives of the Woodland Improvement Grant – Low Impact Silvicultural Systems option.

Design of the density of underplanting should consider future harvesting operations and infill by natural regeneration. The density of underplanting must be agreed with your woodland officer and detailed in your application.

You must record the area designated for underplanting on a map and give the management reasons for the operation in your application.

Please ensure you abide by conditions set out in the Forestry Grant Scheme claim form and guidance.
