Beef Efficiency Scheme analysis

Following genotyping work carried out by SRUC for the Beef Efficiency Scheme (BES), we are now able to provide an update on what has been found to date.

A full report can be found below along with a link to the highlights document of what’s been found in the analysis so far.

Early results are looking very promising and initial analysis has highlighted that the data is being recorded well. This will be useful to inform practices within and across Scottish beef herds.

One of the aims of the scheme is to generate information for farmers that drives genetic improvement. It is important in the early stages that we get sufficient data to draw meaningful conclusions on the genetics of these traits that don’t change when more data is added.

We would ask for patience until that point is reached and we hope to be able to provide more data regarding estimated breeding values in winter 2017/18.
