CAP greening report published
The final report and recommendations of Professor Griggs CAP Greening Review Group have been published.
The report examines how future policy and support mechanisms could achieve environmentally and economically sustainable farming in Scotland.
Welcoming the report, Rural Economy Secretary Fergus Ewing said:
“This report presents a common approach to sustainability and sets out a shared set of recommendations that take forward the debate in an evidence-based way, without glossing over the very real environmental challenges the farming sector faces.
"Along with the work of the Agriculture Champions and the National Council of Rural Advisers, this report is something we can draw on in designing future farm policy in Scotland in the months and years ahead.
“I am grateful to Professor Griggs and to all the members of the Group for their important and thorough contribution.
The report gives us independent support over the direction of travel, which Scottish Government policy has been taking in recent years – for example, through the introduction of more geographical targeting of environmental schemes.”
Environment Secretary Roseanna Cunningham said:
“We are committed to ensuring that greening rules are effective for the environment and I therefore welcome this report that looks at how to encourage more sustainable and environmentally friendly farming in the future.
“While we are not yet at the stage of designing the detailed environmental aspects of future farming policy, it is important to develop a shared understanding of the challenges to address, and to explore the principles that can help to ensure future measures are as effective as possible in protecting and enhancing our farmed environment.”
