Farm Safety Week
We've been marking Farm Safety Week (24 - 28 July) with our usual mix of engaging infographics and videos on our Rural Matters social media channels.
We teamed up with SRUC to put the focus on machinery, with the college's experts John Mallon and Douglas Goldie giving us their top tips for using tractors, telehandlers and ATVs.
Douglas and John see these pieces of equipment as the most frequently used on farms and often the most frequently used without the correct training or instruction.
And on Thursday, we told Roddy's story. Roddy Low, who works on his parent's farm in Fife, shared his experience of a near miss on the farm when a tree he was felling rolled onto him unexpectedly.
Thankfully, Roddy had prepared in advance and was able to call for help when he became trapped.
We also brought followers more general top tips for farm safety using infographics - always a favourite with social media users - to highlight many of the dangers working on a farm can present.
