Fergus Ewing welcomes Commissioner Hogan's decision

Commenting on the EU’s decision to grant derogation from implementing the crop diversification/three crop rule in Scotland for the 2018 scheme year, Rural Economy Secretary Fergus Ewing said:

“I welcome this sensible decision by Commissioner Hogan to grant a one season derogation from the three crop rule, which will provide some much needed relief to farmers across Scotland.

“Given the recent weather conditions, it is unsurprising that our farmers have struggled. Arable farmers have been struggling to sow planned crops this spring with field work running considerably behind normal.

"That is why we sought this derogation and the fact this has now been granted demonstrates the Scottish Government’s continued commitment to supporting our rural economy.”
