Farmers and crofters will receive their funds at the earliest point since 2015 as the 2020 scheme year payments have commenced.

The Basic Payment Support, Greening and Young Farmer payments will be made two months earlier than the 2019 scheme year and will arrive in the bank accounts of more than 13,000 businesses from 14 December 2020.

Rural Economy Secretary Fergus Ewing said: “With Brexit looming, we are continuing to look after the interests of our farmers and crofters. Our payment strategy provides them with certainty and financial stability in a year when uncertainty has reigned, with significant pressures on our resources due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions and Brexit related activities.

“This year we have consistently been the first part of the UK to start getting 2020 monies out to farmers and crofters. We will continue do everything we can to ensure farmers and crofters get their support payments on time.”

Background

The payments have been made two months earlier than the 2019 payments which commenced on 20 February 2020.
