Mandatory CCTV in slaughterhouses

It is now mandatory for abattoirs to record on CCTV all areas where live animals are present.

This is to ensure the highest standards of animal welfare in abattoirs, inform public trust in proper processes, help slaughter staff training, help those responsible for enforcing welfare legislation.

The proposal was backed by the vast majority of respondents to a consultation carried out by the Scottish Government in 2019.
