The aim of this item is to benefit a variety of habitats where scrub is invading a sensitive site.

Leaving cut vegetation on site following control of intermediate or heavy scrub is not always appropriate for nutrient sensitive sites, or where regeneration of underlying plants is required.

Any land where intermediate or heavy scrub is invading a sensitive habitat, or where the work will benefit a Scheduled Monument, is eligible.

You must combine this item with:

• Control of Scrub or Woody Vegetation: Primary Treatment – Intermediate and Heavy Vegetation

Your scrub control plan must detail how the vegetation will be removed, and where it will be disposed of.

• you must remove all cut or uprooted scrub material from the site
• you must maintain a diary

You can claim £1,050 per hectare.

You may apply for payment on an actual cost basis for this item if the work you are proposing to carry out will benefit the notified features of a designated site, and where there are exceptional circumstances. This can include works which offer a dual benefit to both the environment and the long term management of a Scheduled Monument located within the designated site (Sites of Special Scientific Interest and European sites)

The inspectors will check:

• the location and extent of the work
• you have removed all cut or uprooted scrub material from the mapped site
• you have maintained a diary
