To be used to enable access where a path crosses a field boundary such as fences or walls. Provides a robust, accessible and easy to use self-closing gate, suitable for multi-use. A one-way opening gate is less preferable than a two-way gate, but can help manage livestock pressures, roadsides access and can perform as a vehicle barrier.

Any land is eligible, and the gate should be on an existing, upgraded or new path.

Galvanised steel gate:

  • 1.2m height from ground level
  • 1.5m minimum width of opening
  • made of galvanised steel H-frame, set in concrete to 0.7m depth
  • self-closing hinges or equivalent self-closing mechanism
  • easy-operation latch
  • gate stop

Additionally:

  • Surfaces through gates must tie in with path, be firm, level and well drained.
  • Where one-way opening gates are installed adjacent to roads they should open away from the road.
  • A one-way opening gate should open into the side used by livestock.
  • Gate must self-close.
  • Photographic evidence: You must keep a photographic record of the gate installation showing works below ground level.

You can claim £350 each.

The inspectors will check:

  • The location and extent of the work as is detailed in the contract schedule of works and contract map.
  • That the capital item requirements have been met as detailed above.
  • That photographic evidence has been provided as detailed above.
