A well-placed bench seat allows people of all abilities to stop, rest and enjoy the view particularly on longer paths or those with steep gradients. A bench seat provides a large but still simple resting point.

Any land is eligible, and the seat should be close to and linked directly to an upgraded or new path.

  • bench seat with or without backrest, of treated timber or recycled plastic, placed close to the path
  • seat planks should be smooth with rounded off-edges, free draining, and fixed with counter-sunk galvanised/stainless steel or brass screws or bolts
  • legs should be sturdy, min 75mm x75mm section if timber, and fixed firmly to the ground either in holes backfilled with well-rammed earth and stones and/or concrete; or with timber or metal pins
  • height of the seat should be between 450 – 520mm above a level and firm ground level
  • you must keep photographic evidence of the installation phase showing works below ground level

You can claim £350 each

The inspectors will check:

  • The location and extent of the work as is detailed in the contract schedule of works and contract map.
  • That the capital item requirements have been met as detailed above.
  • That photographic evidence has been provided as detailed above.
