Scottish Suckler Beef Support Scheme extended

The Scottish Suckler Beef Support Scheme (SSBSS) 2025 application window has been extended and will close at midnight on 14 January 2026.

Please note that it is only the application window that has been extended and existing scheme eligibility requirements have not changed. For example, animals born on or after 2 December 2025 are not eligible until the 2026 scheme year. Applications for the 2026 scheme year can be submitted from 15 January 2026.

Online submission is the easiest and quickest way to apply. It will help you avoid some simple errors such as claiming for an animal twice or entering an ear-tag in the wrong format.

Background

This scheme is worth around £40 million to beef producers in Scotland and provides additional support to help maintain beef suckler herds at a level that sustains the commercial beef industry in the country.
