Future Farming Investment Scheme

The Future Farming Investment Scheme (FFIS) is a capital grant scheme designed to help eligible active farmers and crofters improve the environmental performance of their agricultural business in terms of climate change and biodiversity benefits.

FFIS offers upfront capital funding that can cover up to 100% of eligible investment costs to ensure all agricultural businesses can carry out the most appropriate on farm/croft capital investment for their agricultural business that will deliver at least one of the schemes objectives which are:

  • improve business efficiency and sustainability;
  • protect, restore or enhance the environment;
  • reduce greenhouse gas emissions;
  • mitigate the effect of climate change.

FFIS will open for applications on 14 July 2025 and close on 22 August 2025. The indicative budget allocation for the scheme is £14 million.

The maximum level of grant that can be applied for will be determined by the total area of eligible agricultural land (excluding common grazing shares) that agricultural businesses declared on their Single Application Form (SAF) on 15 May. There is no minimum amount of support that can be applied for. The maximum levels of grant are detailed in the scheme guidance.

Applications will be made online using the Manage Applications and Claims Portal, available on this page on 14 July 2025. To submit an application, agricultural businesses will need to:

  • be registered and approved to receive funding with the Scottish Government Rural Payments and Inspections Division (SGRPID),
  • have an active Rural Payments and Services account and
  • have an up-to-date preferred communication email address on Rural Payments and Services

SGRPID will issue successful applicants with an Offer of Grant that they will need to read and accept within 14 days.

Once an Offer of Grant has been accepted, SGRPID will issue grant payments. Agricultural businesses will then have 9 months to carry out all the capital investments they applied for and provide proof of investment to SGRPID.

Before applying for an FFIS grant, agricultural businesses should read and understand the scheme guidance.
